Trip to New York City Museums
March 8 – 10, 2012
Join the Farnsworth Art Museum Docents on a fascinating visit
to five special New York City museums!
Thursday, March 8
6:30 am Meet at the Farnsworth Art Museum lobby for coffee & muffins
7:00 Bus departs Rockland (lunch on your own at Rein's Deli,Vernon, CT)
4:00 pm Check in at Beacon Hotel (2130 Broadway, NYC: 212-787-1100)
5:00 Bus departs for Brooklyn Museum and a private tour of American
Identities; also, the only gallery dedicated to feminist art,
including Judy Chicago's The Dinner Party (open till 10 pm: dinner on
your own in their restaurant)
9:00 Bus departs for hotel (Note: Breakfast on your own: all rooms
have kitchenettes, with market across street from hotel)
Friday, March 9
9:30 am Bus departs for the New York Historical Society. Special exhibits
include 55 paintings in Making American Taste; and also Revolution!
The Atlantic World Reborn, the first exhibition to relate the
American, French and Haitian revolutions as a single global narrative.
11:30 Bus departs for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Tour The
Renaissance Portrait from Donatello to Bellini, including Leonardo da
Vinci's masterpiece Lady with an Ermine among 160 works showing the
evolution of portraiture in Florence, Mantua, Ferrara and Venice
through the 15th century. (Lunch on your own either at the museum
or at one of the Neue Gallery's spectacular cafés at 86th Street)
3:00 pm Bus departs for the Whitney Museum of American Art, featuring
its Biennial 2012.
5:00 Bus departs for private reception at the Alexandre Gallery, where
several Maine artists will be invited to join us (Dinner on your own,
after returning to hotel)
Saturday, March 10
8:30 am Load bus with your luggage and box lunch you bought at market
across street from hotel
9:00 Bus departs for The Cloisters. Special docent or curatorial tour
of this citadel of medieval art
Noon Bus departs for Rockland (Enjoy your custom box lunch en route!)
6:30 pm Dinner on your own at the Macaroni Grill in South Portland
9:30 Arrive back at the Farnsworth Art Museum
Cost Information
Using a basis of 35 participants, the cost of the trip
for a docent, CSC member, or a guest sharing a double
room; including bus transportation ($130), two nights at
the hotel ($255), reception and tips ($10) $395.00
Admission fees for those who are not Farnsworth docents $100.00
Additional cost for a single room $255.00
Note: * All meals are on your own (and are not included in costs)
* If more than 35 persons participate, any surplus will be refunded
on a pro rata basis.
